Can any of you current nurses tell me if minnesota is experiencing a nursing shortage? I know other states are, but is Land of the lakes? Thanks!

I don't believe we have a shortage what I have noticed however is a lot of places that hire but have all these requirements to fill before they will talk to you and if you are a new grad good luck

I've spoken with the nurse recruiters at North Memorial, Allina, Methodist and Fairview regarding new grad opportunities. Basically they post positions for new grads closer to graduation months (Oct-Nov for Dec grads/March-April for May/June grads). Most new grads are interviewed before they take boards, and generally start to work if hired the month after boards.

I found Allina, Park Nicollet and North Memorial to be very responsive. Fairview a bit less so, but I have a friend who works as an RN at Fairview Southdale and loves it. I did an LPN-RN transition rotation at Fairview Riverside/Rehab unit and was very impressed with the staff.

HCMC is another hospital to check out, but I have found that their nurse recruiter is very hard to get ahold of, and isn't the greatest at returning calls. They are a great teaching hospital, and I enjoyed my rotations there!

Good luck!
