Nursing Schools in Chicago?

Published

I live in California right now and I want to move to Chicago pretty soon. So I just wanted to know about some good schools you have, and if there are any without waitlists? The cost of the schools? Pre-reqs that are required? How I can get in? Or is it very hard to get into the schools there? Also are there any technical schools that offer some nursing programs? I pretty much want to get my LVN first before going on to my RN, so if that helps any. Any info you have would be great!

Hello Pumpkin,

There are several LPN (aka LVN) programs in the Chicago area. Not too long ago there were very few as the demand for LPN's cooled because the need for RN's was dramatic. Most hospitals in Chicago do not employ LPN's but they are employed in the long-term nursing home type setting. Wilbur Wright College (one of the City Colleges of Chicago) has a program you can check out at http://www.ccc.edu and select Wilbur Wright College.

I have heard of a few private LPN programs popping up, but you'll have to check out NLNAC site for accredited programs.

Personally, I'd bite the bullet and take the couple of extra semesters and get the associate degree in nursing. Only a few extra months of work and you'll have your RN.

Good luck

Jeff
