My boyfriend and I were watching that show last night about new recruits in the police academy.
And I kind of mentioned...because I'm trying to prepare him...that soon I will be going through my own version of police academy...called nursing school.
And he kind of scoffed.
I do realize it's not a physical or fast as police academy, but I thought it was a good comparison.

I don't really know anything about either program atleast not enough to compare. However, what I have been doing is reading nursing blogs online, there are a couple good ones that sort of give you the day to day break down, the emotions, the hard work etc... I made my husband read a few of the enteries. He supports me 110%, however, I won't him to really understand why I am as nervous as I am to start. do a search there are some really great ones out there.

Catzy, would you mind sharing the links for these blogs? Or PMing them? I'd love to read them.
Thanks!

My husband has been through both. He was a cop and detective for 15 years before becoming a nurse. He always maintained that nursing school was a cakewalk. He never studied, never brought a book home, and managed to keep A's and B's the whole time.
He said the law enforcement acadamy nearly killed him and not just the physical aspects. He still has nightmares about police "boot camp".
He has also said that the stress of nursing is negligible compared to being a cop. He feels like he has retired and is pursuing a relaxing hobby. There are no death threats in the mail, no one threatens his families safety, and no one has come to our house to destroy our property for revenge.
I guess I can't expect any sympathy from him when I start NS this spring!
jackson....
I understand. I'm not expecting any sympathy either.
My boyfriend was an MP for 6 years. And will probably go back into law enforcement when I am done with school.
I was just trying to kind of put what I will be going through in some terms that he might be able to relate to. But alas...he didn't. LOL

They never understand, do they? No matter what I do with my life my husband has already done it bigger, better, faster. It's sooooo frustrating!

Yep, nursing school takes discipline and you will be doing things you ordinarily wouldn't do, but in the end it's all worth it. :)

I have been a Sheriff's Deputy for 14 years and trust me, I HATE it. Everyone is a fan of COPS, but that is NOT true to life. Nowhere does it show the 100's of pages and reports you must fill out. It would be nice to do a car chase and chase a def. on foot for about 40 yards then just take them down to the jail and be back out on the streets 20 minutes later. But in real life you must go back and list probable cause, then justify your actions, then go back on dash cam and count the red lights and the vehicles they struck in the process. Pain in the butt, not to mention they will be out of jail and have a bond posted before you turn your paperwork in. Usually, the guys that have the SUPERMAN syndrome are the first to quit when faced in a life/death situation.
I have worked on Gang Unit, Street Crimes, Narc, and now a Det. Been stabbed 3 times, once with a rusty ice pick. I recently had a K/P Transplant at UAB and have applied to Nursing School. I LOVE nurses and hope to be one soon. Nurses are MY REAL HEROS. I LOVED watching those shows too, now I don't care for them. I do like my fellow coworkers and would still lay my life down for them, but Policing is NOT for everyone.. Most find out what they are made of when they pull over a 280 lb man refusing to be locked up and backup is about 10 minutes away.
