Are your clincial grades figured into your overall grade? How many hours a week do you spend in class, just nursing class. I really need to know so thanks so much to all willing to take time to answer.

I don't know if all schools are the same, but at mine you have 3 separate grades the first two semesters of nursing school - lecture, lab, and clinical (third and fourth semesters there is no lab). You get a numeric grade for lecture, based on exam and quiz grades. Lab and clinical are Pass/Fail (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory). If you get lower than a 77 in lecture, you fail the course. If you get a U in lab, you fail the course. If you get a U in clinical, you fail the course.

I personally spend 4 hours a week in lecture, 3 in lab, and 13 in clinical (I am only in my second semester). I come in during my so-called 'spare time' to practice lab skills, so figure another 2 hours a week for that.

Hope this helps give you an idea of what to expect. :)

In my ADN program we receive two grades:

One for Lab/Clinical This is pass/fail and I don't believe it goes on the transcript

One for Lecture This is a number grade, like 88 or 72. It is translated into a letter grade (A, B, C) on your transcript.

I'm a first semester freshman and we divide our time like this:

Lecture 5 hours/week

Clinical/Lab 8 hours/week

Second semester it will be:

Lecture 4 hours/week

Clinical 16 hours/week

It doesn't sound like a ton of hours, but you also do hours and hours worth of work outside of class to prepare and study.

i am in an rn program too. we get a letter grade for lecture and a pass or fail for clinical. both must be passed in order to progress to the next rotation/semester.

I am a first semester student and we have to pass clinical/lab satisfactorily (its pass/fail). Our performance is not factored into our grade. For lab we have two lab practicums (pass/fail) and clinical is pass/fail.

We spend:

6 hours clinical/week

1 hour phramacology/week (this is a separate 1 Cr class)

Lab varies now that clinical has started 3-6 hrs/week

Lecture now also varies since clinical has started 6-12 hrs/week

Next semester I believe its:

4 hours lecture/week

12 hours clinical/week

Lab time? I have no idea! Of course that's all based on what the class schedule says for Spring 2004 and doesn't really mean much until they tell us otherwise.
