My husband was in the Army and I had ask these questions and they told me no. They told me I would have to wait till I got back to the States and went to a school to do clinicals. They told me there would be no way that I could do clinicals at a military hospital. Maybe you would have better luck. Did you find out anything? Good luck!!

You can go to the Airforce base hospital and do your clinicals. Just talk to the Chief Nurse of the Hospitals. Are you going through Regents if so they are familiar with that program. I did it a lot when I was in Korea for dependents. You just have to go in not call and ask your questions. Once they find out that your are going to join when you are finished they will be excited. No there is no loan-repayment but there is a $15,000 sign on bounus for 4 years. The Army has $30,000 Loan Repayment for 3 years.

Regents is no longer accepted all over. Be careful going that route.

The Army accepts it. As long as she passes her NCLEX. Regents is still NLN accredited. What is the progam that you are trying to complete in 13months?

But if she decides to become a civilian, there are now issues with it, do your homework first is all that I am saying. Much has been written on this over the past few weeks here. Just do a search.

After being in the Army who wants to be a civilian?

If she has six years experience in the ARMY she will have her Masters by the so that won't even matter. We have 100% tuition Assistance. So it is easy to go to school. Do the quick fix now just make sure that Military service is you goal.

Hi. I am an Air Force spouse. We are stationed in Germany. I have a BA degree and wish to go back for a BS in Nursing and join the Air Force (which can be accomplished in an accelerated program in roughly 13 months so I've researched). My problem is that I need for a way to do clinicals. Do I have any hope of getting my degree over here (we are still to be stationed here for 2 years)? My dream has always been to be in the Air Force (no other branch is an option anyway since my husband is already in the AF and we would need to do joint spouse)! I had read that the AF re-imburses for Nursing school though I could be wrong about that. Basically I would like a little guidence as to what direction I can go with this. Is there a way to do clinicals in military hospital? Anyone know? Thanks so much!

1st: Make sure the school your obtaining the BSN from is National League of Nursing (NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited.

2nd: For them to award the degree you will have to go through clinicals which you should be able to do at your local facility. Talk with the Chief Nurse there. I really don't see this as an issue I am sure your not the first to get your nursing degree over there.

3rd: Currently Health Professions Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP) is offered to BSN holders. The amount right now is 29,000 which after taxes ends up being somewhere between 21,000 and 23,000. There is only so much money set aside each year so its a first come first serve type of thing. This year they actually ran out in Feb but 1 Oct its a whole new ballgame. The AF can decide from year to year if it will be offered and normally it depends on the need right now everyone needs nurses.

Currently the sign on bonus for nurse corp is 15,000 but after taxes ends up being about 7,900.

4th: When your within 12 mos of degree you can start working a packet and get selected but you will not be able to depart until you have the BSN and the NCLEX passed

I just wanted to thank you all for your kind responses to my inquiry. :-) My husband and I discussed it and I have spoken to several schools in the US and have decided to just wait until we return to the US to complete my BSN. As for me joining the military after that...That will take a lot more convincing for my husband to accept that idea. He is a Security Forces cop (A1C in the AF) but does not intend to make this a career. That is why I hope he will come around to the idea. I think part of the reason he doesn't want me to do it is because he'd hate for me to be officer and him enlisted... I will keep you posted what comes about. I am very patient though..have to be to be a military spouse! :-)
