Nursing School Interview

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I got my letter informing me that i have been chosen to interview for a nursing program. My question is or those of you who have gone through a nursing interview, what type of questions should i expect?

Here are some typical questions that I think and found that would be asked:

Why do you want to be a nurse?

What are your career goals?

How do you manage stress?

What are the requirements for a person to succeed in nursing?

Why do you want to go to this school and why did you choose this program?

Why should we accept you into our school?

What attracts you to nursing?

What do you find unappealing about nursing?

How will you cope in nursing school?

What is your greatest weakness?

What have been your most significant accomplishments to date?

What are your future goals?

What do you do when you have difficulties solving a problem?

How would a past professor of yours describe you?

What are the biggest challenges facing nursing today?

Describe a time you worked with someone you did not get along with

Do you have any questions for me?

I would be honest and sincere rather than giving answers you think they want to hear. I would give answers that reflect who you are and what your intentions are. I would also be prepared to answer confidently, be specific and enthusiastic, but avoid overconfidence.

Thank you very much for the advice!

I interviewed for an ABSN program in March and ShiningStar pretty much covered it! My school also asked:

- Use 5 words to describe yourself.

- What do you think of hierarchy in the hospital?

- What does "work ethic" mean to you?

- Describe a difficult experience you have had in the past and how you overcame it.

- What will you have to give up/be giving up while in nursing school, if accepted?

- What, if any, experience have you had in healthcare?

They also asked some very specific questions about our study habits and how we would handle having multiple tests in one day, and one interviewer even asked what we think about students who talk amongst themselves during class, while the teacher is lecturing.

Definitely be sincere and genuine, as well as friendly and personable. Smile a lot! :D I was sooooooooo super nervous, but we did group interviews, and I could tell that my fellow interviewees were nervous as well, so if you're the type who gets nervous in such situations, don't worry, you're not alone! And if you're going to be doing a group interview, be prepared with a few different answers to any possible question; there were so many times when a fellow interviewee would answer a question (before me) with basically how I wanted to answer the question, and you don't want to be repeating other people's answers!

GOOD LUCK! :nurse:

Goodluck to you!!! The answers to your question are pretty much outlined already by the other posters above. I went to 3 interviews, and each one had their own measures. Just be yourself, and relax. Don't be afraid to ask questions yourself.

Brittany, would you happen to be having an interview with Duke for their ABSN program? I got my letter around the same time and was just wondering :)
