Nursing school grades and NCLEX

Published

Just curious, Has anyone here failed the NCLEX, yet did very well in nursing school (ie. graduated with a 3.8 and above)?

I haven't even received my ATT yet (taking FOREVER), but I'm just curious if I should worry too much about the possibility of failing NCLEX since I did very well in nursing school.

I graduated LPN school with a 3.3, passed NCLEX-PN with the minimum of 85 questions in 2009. I just graduated my Mobility program (LPN to RN) with a 3.7 and passed NCLEX-RN with the minimum 75 questions this past Feb. 2013. But that doesn't necessarily mean because I had decent grades I am going to automatically pass the NCLEX. You still have to invest time and effort into preparing and studying for NCLEX. It is another nursing school test essentially. THEE ultimate nursing school test! Graduating nursing school with good grades means you have a good foundation on nursing but you will still need to prepare in order to pass. ....Unless you plan on donating your $305 to the NCLEX charity with no license in return.

Good luck.

I don't have any personal experience with this but I did have a couple of friends with awesome nursing school grades who failed their NCLEX the first time. I also had friends who go through nursing school by the skin of their teeth who passed the NCLEX the first time. I don't think being a great or average student determines your passability.

Try not to freak yourself out, you have a far BETTER chance of PASSING the NCLEX than you do of failing it. The last stats I read were 85% of people taking the NCLEX for the 1st time pass.

I would never go into any test without studying, especially the NCLEX. I received good grades in nursing school because I studied often and hard, I'm not about to slack when it comes to the most important test. I was just curious if many people with good grades fail NCLEX.
