Nursing School Expectations

Published

I am taking A & P I this semester and II while application is processed next semester for August admission. I am wondering exactly how hard nursing school really is, I have heard horror stories about the stress that comes with it. I am very committed to becoming a RN and won't let anything hold me back, I just want to be realistic about what I am expecting in terms of difficulty. Any tips from graduates or students on things I should focus on prior to the program to give me a jump start? If you could go back and do it again, would you take bio or chem? Which one issued help me most? What about study tips? Thanks for any advice!

Orizza, how is a and p treating you so far? It is pretty challenging in my opinion. Do you have any study tips? I make flash cards, record audio, and play downloaded apps on my iPad. Where in Montana do you vacation? My ranch is near Helena.

Well I just had my second class & my first lab isn't until Monday. So far I've just been reading the textbook, but when we get to the actual anatomy, my boyfriend bought me an awesome pocket sized book with EVERYTHING in every system labeled. I'll post the name of it when I get home after work. I also use apps on my iPhone. My boyfriend & I are going to Alberton (he used to live there-first time for me) which is all the way on the western side. Ranch... :'(

Lab day will be awesome! I love the apps for my iPad, they help so much. Especially when the chemistry chapter comes along : o western Montana is the pretty side, eastern is more like Wyoming. I would be more excited about the ranch if I wasn't gonna be there by myself for 2 years : ( my hubby and I own a small business out of WY and he will be staying to run it while I am doing np. Kinda scary out there...we literally have bears and had to get a Caucasian mountain dog to protect me. Yikes! Not to mention a plow for my truck just to get to school. : / You will enjoy your trip though! Try to stop in Missoula and eat at Hoagieville...Delish!

I LOVE those dogs! I really can't wait to go, I've wanted to since before I can remember. It'll be refreshing before nursing school (hopefully). I'm just having a problem finding things to do, I want to see as much as possible in a week.

There is so much to do there, you won't have a problem filling your time! If you like antique stores, Mt has the best. Missoula is full of fun things to do, a very artsy town with lots of diversity. Helena is fun, too. There is a hot spring right off 90, right before Missoula. It is a local spot that many people don't know about. When you are heading to Missoula from butte, watch for a place on the right that looks like a riverboat, about 2 miles or so west of that is a small body of water, park right past the bridge and walk back to the hot spring. There is a waterfall back there and you can swim under the rock into a hot pool thing. Very cool! Try to go there during week, locals lock it down during weekends. There are ghost towns that you can go explore, pretty neat. Also in Deer Lodge is the old prison and you can tour it...very cool! Look for the Amish folks around town during the week and buy some pies for taking home, you literally can't go wrong...best food ever! I could keep going, fly fishing, backpacking. It mostly depends if you are an outdoors person or not! Let me know if you want any other recommendations!

If I were you, I would take the "horror stories" with a grain of salt. You will not know how hard nursing school will be until you are in that situation yourself. I know I was freaking out after coming on this website for the first time hearing how hard it was etc..... Luckily so far I have gotten all A's with hard work and determination. This is a new semester and I am taking on more classes, so who knows... I am sure if gets a bit more difficult depending on which classes you are taking, but everyone is different.

This is the anatomy book I was talking about earlier, and I will definitely have to grab a pen & paper and inbox you sometime about what to see out there!

For sure! I will look into that link, thanks : )
