Nursing School - Employment History Concern

Published

Hello,

I am applying for nursing school and I have been reading the nursing handbook. This is my concern. The nursing handbook says this, "Employment Verification which may include the reason for separation and eligibility for re-employment for each employer. The last seven years may be searched if the student is 21 years of age or older." This is part of the criteria required for the nursing school background check.

I am hoping to get into nursing school as a second career choice. I have been in the world of I.T. and have a bachelor's degree in I.T. I have had a couple I.T. jobs after school and I have been fired from them because of the difficulty of work, my employer told me that I do not have the necessary skills to perform my job. Can you please tell me how and why nursing schools consider your past employment history? I am really concerned because I just finished the pre-nursing requirements so I can apply to nursing school. Now that it is time to apply, I have been reading the nursing handbook in great detail and just learned about the above mentioned statement within the quotation marks. Thank you.

The background check is for safety concerns, such as abuse investigations, substance abuse, etc.

Thank you for replying. Your answer does give me some comfort. Please do not take this as an insult cleback but I tried, "googling my question" and read a few different explanations. Would anyone mind confirming that the reason given above from cleback is the case?

Thank you cleback.

Thank you cleback.

The only one who can confirm is the school.

I agree that this is a question the school needs to answer. And you should probably refrain from calling yourself "nurse" until you actually are one.

Good luck with your application.

Thank you.

You should be able to in settings. If not, you can send a message to the help desk. But it is actually against the terms of service to have a user name containing a title you don't have.
