Well I don't know what semester you are in.. But you HAVE to take time away from the books. We didn't have class on Fridays, so I took Friday as my day.. No nursing books were opened. No matter how much I had to do. I honestly think its the only way to keep your sanity.

Nursing School And A Social Life
On the other hand, you do have to take mental health breaks here and there. My experience was eat, drink, sleep, dream, everything nursing, while I was in nursing school. But we got a fair warning when we had our orientation; that is pretty much what they said it was going to be and that is the way it was.
I will never forget the panic that came over me one day while I was leasurely watching TV one evening. What was I doing? What about my care plans, etc.??? Then I remembered...I was on my second day of summer break

My social life is pretty non-existent. A couple of people tried to fix me up with someone (it's not like i get out to MEET anyone) but as soon as that guy hears my work/school schedule, they're not interested. Hoping this changes once i get out of school.

i just graduated last june., and i totally know what you mean about never feeling like you have time. so when you have a day off, just do that, take the WHOLE day off, relax, go out, sleep in past 6 am :chuckle before you know it, it'll be done with, and then youll just be at work all the time! :rotfl:

From the beginning of the nursing program I made it a point to go out at least once a week. When I say go out, i usually went to the movies or dancing. This has kept me sain throughtout the program. I have kept an excellent GPA and I have never felt burned out. When first semester students ask me for advice...thats the first thing I say is...you cant live and breath nursing, you gotta take time out for yourself, to be yourself.
By the way I am in my last semester and I will be going out tommrow!
Good luck,
Pearl :)
