Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Published

Hello,

I am a pre-nursing student, considering several different schools to complete my clinical nursing courses at. I live in Maryland but am considering going to school in Virginia, Pennsylvania, or North Carolina. I would like to know if I complete my BSN in one of these states, would it be possible to get my actual RN license for Maryland and not the state I went to school in? Does it work that way? Or do you have to be licensed in the state that you went to school in and somehow have it transferred?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated or if you could recommend a great school in either of these states with a great nursing program that would be awesome as well!

Thank you!! :)

You do not have to be licensed in the state in which you attend school. You can apply for licensure in any state; you just have to ask your school to send your information to that state's BON when you graduate (schools automatically send the info on their graduating classes to their own state BON but, if you want it sent anywhere else, you have to specially request it).

NCLEX is a national exam. You can take it wherever you choose for licensure in whatever state you choose. You can live in Maryland, go to school in Pennsylvania and take NCLEX in Virginia for licensure in North Carolina. When you send in your application for NCLEX, you include your application for licensure in whatever state you intend to be licensed in. Pearson Vue then sends your results to that state and you receive your license from them
