Hi Everyone!
My name is Jeanette. I live in Long Island, NY. I am hoping to enroll in a nursing program by September 2011. I would have to keep my full-time job so would have to be a program I can do in the eveningtime. I hear Suffolk Community college has a great program. I have also heard some good things about BOCES. Also, was recently watching TV, one of the cable access channels, and heard St. Catherine of Siena has a training program available through their nursing home. If there are any other schools on the Island that offer a nursing program that I am missing, please share. I am really just needing as much information and help as possible. This is all new to me and a little overwhelming.

Have you tried contacting those schools you have mentioned for information? That would be your best source to get the information that you need. You might want to post this in the New York state regional forums too. Hope this helps :)

Hi! I actually work for St. Catherine's so I can tell you what the story is..
St. Catherine's Nursing Home has a CNA training program that they hold on-site. That is their program, which allows you to sit for whatever the test is that CNA's take to be registered. Some state certification test.
If you are a current employee, St. Catherine's (as with all CHSLI hospitals.. St. Charles, St. Francis, Good Sam, etc) also reimburse for any tuition spent on any healthcare related field (up to a certain amount per year).. Nursing, sonographer, phlebotomy, etc etc.. You are reimbursed more if you work full-time for them, less if you are part-time. If you are a current employee of one of those places, and qualify for Suffolk only's nursing program (good grades on all of the pre-req's, etc), then they have a "partnership program" which they pay for in advance, instead of reimbursing you after the fact. That's competitive though, as they have a lot of employees vying for a seat, and only a certain number of seats given to each facility per semester.
Hope that at least clears up that for you :) Good luck!
