Nursing school accreditation

Published

Hello. I have many questions regarding the correct accreditation for a BSN in Florida. I'm aware of sacs, nlnac and ccne but not sure as to how important it is for the school to be accredited by all 3, I suppose that's where I get very confused and would like someone to please explain exactly what the school needs on order for me to work anywhere in the USA after I pass the nclex. I know the big public schools such as fiu and mdc have everything it takes but I would prefer a smaller private environment as I've heard they take better care of their students as oppose to mdc that your just another #. ... Thank you :)

They don't need to be accredited by all three just one.

SACS is the organization that provides general academic accreditation (in the Southeast) to "regular" colleges and universities. If the school is not SACS accredited, it's unlikely courses completed at the school will be accepted by other colleges/universities for credit. NLNAC (now ACEN) and CCNE are both nursing-specific accrediting organizations. Accreditation by one or the other is sufficient; a school doesn't need to be accredited by both (although some choose to be).
