would you do it? has anyone here done it?
Our class was informed about this recent scholarship and i wanted to see if anyone has done it and what their opinion is of the scholarship. it basically pays for your tuition as long as you work for them for 2 years.
"The Nursing Scholarship Program is a selective program of the U.S. Government that helps alleviate the critical shortage of registered nurses currently experienced by certain types of health care facilities by helping needy students complete their registered nurse training. In exchange for the scholarship, upon graduation, the newly minted nurses work at these types of facilities for at least 2 years. "

if you or someone you know has received this scholarship, please post your experience with it. i'm having a tough time deciding on whether or not i should apply...
thank you all!
Is this really first-come first-served? When I called for information about it, I was told that decisions wouldn't start being made until the deadline! Crap crap crap. This semester's been so crazy busy it's taken me forever to get my application entirely done.
I called HRSA a while back to ask another question but asked as well if it was basis "first come" and a rep said it was not. As long as the application was on time, the applicant that got their papers there May 6 has much of a chance at the applicant who got their papers there Feb 1st. I finally got my last document needed yesterday and am mailing my packet today. So don't fret! :redpinkhe
I only just learned about this scholarship and so I applied at the last minute. I should say applying because I have to mail the rest of my documents on Monday. I found the application to be a bit intimidating, particularly the part about giving a number "where you can be reached at all times". I found it to be a bit unsettling. I did go ahead and apply, as I'm not eligible for financial aid at all and have to pay for everything straight out of (shallow) pockets. I am also concerned about getting a job within six months at an approved facility. That would be a LOT of money to pay back. I am currently paying back a similar scholarship/loan for teaching. In three years, I haven't been able to find job one in teaching.
So, I guess I'll apply and wait and see... I wish I knew the average income for recipients. I made more money last year than I ever have before but its still not much!

I had this type of scholarship when I was in school (or it was similar). I had to agree to work at a not for profit hospital for a certain period of time after graduation. For each 6 months I worked for a non profit they erased part of the money. If I stopped working for a non profit then I had to pay the money back.
