Nursing Salary...

Published

Whenever I tell people that I'm going to nursing school everyone immediately jumps to the topic of how much money I'm going to make and how I'm going to be so rich and asks me what kind of house/car I'm going to get. :o I didn't go into nursing for that so it really bugs me how people that are going into this profession (especially my classmates) want to be a nurse for the money and thats basically all they talk about it. It doesn't seem like they are the kind of future nurses that are going to be caring towards their patients at all. Does anyone find this somewhat disturbing or how to handle these kind of comments and misperceptions?

Curlyfries: Some hospitals around my school are offering the 20/40 Financial Assistance Program for Registered Nurses. Here's the link: http://www.memorialmedicalcenter.org/jobs/index.html

You should check if they have that around your school or where you are planning to work and look into it. They help you out financially, but there are some catches to it. I believe you have to work for them as a full-time registered nurse for two years for every two semesters you are receiving money from them while you have to work part-time @ that hospital and enrolled in the nursing program @ the same time. Good luck!

I am curious how many of you folks have large student loans like more than 20K? Is it worth taking out large student loans to pay for your nursing education? Does your employer offer to help pay a portion of your student loans or have you looked into the nursing loan forgiveness program?

Thanks for sharing!

My loans are just a little over 20K, my employer will repay $1,000 per year of employment :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Better than nothing! Was it worth it, eh, I guess. I am not one of these people who feels like I found my calling or something, but I do like the variety of opporunites I have available to me and the fact that I never have to work for minimum wage again, and I can go on to get a masters and make big bucks (uh, I mean save the world) if I want to.
