LPN-RN new grad

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I am trying to put together my new resume as an RN. I have been a LPN since 2009 and recently completed my ADN. How much do I need to go into detail with what each LPN job entailed? Do I need to put my clinical experiences? I am totally lost when it comes to resumes.

I'm a newbie with resumes, too, but I will try to help you as best I can. Are you working as an RN right now? If not you should definitely put that as your objective. Like "seeking a career as a Registered Nurse where I can utilize my blahblahblahblah..." Definitely say you have your LPN and ADN. For that, I think you can just put the school you attended and the years you attended and include any certifications you have (CPR, HIPAA, etc) and any recognitions you received (honors, perfect attendance, etc).

In regards to detail with your LPN jobs, I would put about 5 bullets per job if you can and try to be specific as possible. You don't need to include the tiny details. If you did something you felt was a big accomplishment, you can put that. If you did anything that relates to RN, put that! For example "cared for 50 patents by blahblahblahblah." Start with your most recent job.

By clinical experience, do you mean clinicals at school? Sorry, I'm an MA, so different career. For me, I just list all my clinical skills under the skills section of my resume. If you mean the clinical stuff you did at each LPN job, those can be a bullet, like the specific clinical skill you did.

Does your school have a career center? If it does, the career advisors are usually really helpful. They usually offer resume workshops and one on one assistance.

I hope I was somewhat able to answer your question and I'm really sorry if I didn't. I'm still learning about resumes, which is why I used career services as much as possible when I was in school, and still do.

Good luck!

Thank you yes you answered some of my questions. I just don't know if I should list my clinical experiences from school since I already have experience as a LPN.

Clinical experiences from your RN program? I think you should list them if you did something different then what you did as an LPN. But all RN's have clinicals, right? So I think you should list all the clinical skills you know how to do (IV, injections, etc), but you don't necessarily have to talk about the clinicals you did at school unless you do clinicals at a hospital, then you definitely need to put them down.

Sorry if that was confusing.
