Nursing Residency Programs in San Antonio

Published

Hi RN's,

I have been in the city for a few years, but don't know much about the different residency programs. I am in my 3rd semester and would like to start gathering information about the benefits, pros, and cons about each program. Can anyone give professional feedback on your personal experience being in the Versant, Methodist, Baptist, University, VA, etc residency programs in San Antonio? For example: how long is it, what is their process of weaning you in patient care, do they offer night shift for new RN's, what is the avg. pay for beginning RN's (not asking for your pay rate, but a general avg.), and how was your experience with your preceptor? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I wish they would come to the schools and explain their programs in more details.

Sorry you haven't had more responses - maybe this 'bump' will help.

With the current employment market where there are a surplus of new graduates in most major metro areas - those hospitals don't have to expend the resources to conduct campus recruitment programs since they are already inundated with new grad applications. If you're looking for a transition to practice program (e.g., residency), you need to do a bit of legwork. Contact each facility & find out what they have to offer.

Wishing you the best of luck on your career launch.
