Hi, All.
I was wondering if I could get you all to give me a hand. I completed Nursing School back in December of 2004. Due to a steady flow of unforeseen circumstances I was unable to sit for my NCLEX exam. Are any of you familiar with any form of refresher training I can take in order for me to be able to sit for the exam? I tried the kaplan course but that was more about test taking strategy and less about content. As you can imagine 5 years later the information is ...hazy...at best.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Brick.

Perhaps you could contact your school of nursing and ask if they could recommend a tutor or if someone there would help you to devise a study plan.
A traditional nurse refresher course would not work in your situation, since they require the student to be currently licensed, or to have held a license in the past.
Good luck!
Thanks, Jolie.
I appreciate the reply, that's exactly the kind of suggestion I was hoping for. I hadn't considered the tutor route. My local schools have given me the same info regarding refresher classes. But there is a significant lack of info locally regarding what I need.
Does anyone know of any other resources? or tutors in the area?

Where in Florida are you?
I don't know of a specific refresher course for your situation. But I would imagine that a NCLEX book with testing software would pretty much summarize nursing school. Then, study/review your weaknesses. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/NCLEX-Review-4000-Software-Individual/dp/0781777909
Or maybe get with a group that's studying for the NCLEX?
Hope that helps. Good luck!
OK, I jut had another thought:
Might it be possible to take an on-line refresher course if you strike an agreement with the institution that you will not do the clinicals or be awarded CEU's? In other words, complete the theory portion of the course only.
When I took a refresher last year, we didn't have to have a temporary practice permit unti we reached the clinical portion of the course. It was necessary for patient care, not for the "academic" content. By not completing clinical, perhaps a license would be unnecessary. You probably wouldn't earn CEU's, but that 's not a big deal.
