Hey guys,

Is there anyone who has not graduated from La Inter still on here? I have some questions about the new Asst. Director.

Shipping stuff is really cheap. I shipped 27 boxes of stuff including a printer and a bicycle for about 750 bucks and that was from San Francisco. It may be cheaper from FL. I tried to find the info in my email but I couldn't find it.

They do it by cubic foot so it does not matter at all what the weight is. If you have a bunch of stuff it is very economical.

I bought a couple pieces of furniture here when arrived.

Thanks. I send a couple of messages the last couple years to you guys asking for this. I am so glad that US Territories has their own section now as it did not make sense to house these threads in the International forum.

You can ask me but I don't know if I can answer them. I don't know her very well. She started teaching this year but was not teaching the seniors. She seems very good and is by the books which can be good and bad.

Most people live in Las Cumbres because it is close to school. There are 4 of them. There is a more info about Las Cumbres in the other thread.

Thanks for replying so fast. When first getting there what did you do for transportation? I was thinking about brining my car down but the import tax is making me think twice. Can you message me so I can ask more questions Yogi?

I prefer to talk on the board because this way everyone benefits from the responses. I have a lot of people that message me with general questions that either have been answered or that people can benefit from. Unless it is something that cannot be posted on the board as there are some rules like you cannot mention names (of professors, advisors, etc).

Bringing your car is a personal decision. I have a few friends that did that and most are bringing their car back. A couple people are selling their car here as the resale is a lot higher here. It does cost a lot to bring it here but it is less to bring it back. If you have a newer car it may be worth it.

I rented a car for about 2 weeks until I found a car. I ended up purchasing a 2008 Scion xB in 2010 so my car was only 2 years old. It is still under manufacturers warranty by the way but also it was not cheap.

Thanks for the info. Did you travel from San Fran with your belongings (I.e. bedroom set, living room furniture) if so what shipping company did you use?

Question 2: How many students would you say is in the program currently? What are the class sizes? Are students pretty helpful with one another?

Question 3: Did you work on the island? I don't speak Spanish as well as a native so I was wondering how difficult was it for students to find work while still attending school.

Question 4: Do you happen to have Director A number? I have been trying to acquire her number since its hard to ask questions when calling the office. I always keep getting transferred to "someone who speaks English" then get magically the line gets disconnected.

Thanks in advance,,,,,

I traveled with a ton of stuff but not any furniture. I bought a bed here and a couple other things. My first place a friend gave me a couch but you kind of end up living like a student when it comes to hodge podge furniture. Unfortunately most places are not furnished so you definitely will need a bed but you can find both used and cheaper new ones.

I did ship a lot of stuff and lately people have been asking for the company but I really have no recollection and I cannot find any old correspondence. But if I do I will post it here.

Question 2: How many students would you say is in the program currently? What are the class sizes? Are students pretty helpful with one another?

I believe there are about 1,000 students. About 300 or so in the Spanish program in the mornings. Then another 600 or 700 students in the English program in the evenings. Of that number ½ the students are accelerated (previous Bachelors) and the other ½ are non-accelerated.

The lecture classes have about 50 students. Our class grew this year to about 60 so a lot of our classes were 30 students because some of the teachers would not teach more then 50. The clinicals never have more than 10 people. Yes students are amazingly helpful. Almost all my friends are nursing students. You definitely form a bond with your fellow students and the past nursing assoc directive and the current directive is on top of it. The first year I started the president didn’t do anything but this last year one of my classmates was president and he really made a lot of positive changes and initiatives.

The new directive is awesome too and in fact last Sat they all got together to orientate new nursing students.

Anyway it is like a family and some of the friends I met here I will have forever.

So yes students are more then helpful and you will probably make great friends.

Question 3: Did you work on the island? I don't speak Spanish as well as a native so I was wondering how difficult was it for students to find work while still attending school.

I didn’t work. I don’t know many English only speakers that did. One friend worked at Starbucks in Condado as in Condado you don’t need English. Other friends do work trade at school and work in the nursing dept but the pay is 7 USD an hour.

Question 4: Do you happen to have Director A number? I have been trying to acquire her number since its hard to ask questions when calling the office. I always keep getting transferred to "someone who speaks English" then get magically the line gets disconnected.

I don’t have her number. I only recently got the number for the nursing dept as I had such a hard time getting ahold of anyone before I arrived. Once I got here I started doing everything in person. I am surprised you have Spanish only people answering the phone. All the work study students that answer the phone are mainly students in the English program that also speak Spanish. They don’t hire anyone for up front unless they are bilingual.

So no one has direct lines there are only extensions. The main number to the school is 787-250-1912. Then follow the prompts for English and enter in extension 2159. That extension is reception area of the nursing dept. I know that each person like the director or assistant director have their own extensions but I have no idea what they are and you will always get someone to answer at 2159 if the building is open.
