Puerto Rico school feedback?

Before I look into changing my ticket I have a quick questions, is the orientation on the 10th for students who have already been accepted or can any one go? I am taking a red eye too on Delta. Where are you staying? I got a deal through Costco to stay at a resort for cheap. One last question, how does the accelerated program work? Every schedule I see it looks like you will be there for 2-2.5 years whether you have took classes or not. At least that is what I get from the BSN brochure and the class schedule for the Metro campus. Hmm?

Well, when my husband and I went to talk to the assistant director, she basically just looked at the classes that we've already taken, marked them off on the curriculum sheet, and then told him he was doing advanced and I was doing regular. Boooooo. Anyway LOL That's all she did. She didn't interview us or anything. She just told us to come to the orientation and then come see her in the middle of summer to register for our classes. So anyone can come as far as I know.

The advanced track is *almost* 2 years, and the regular is *almost* 3 years. It seems like you start in August and end in May, so that would be what--1 year 8 months, and 2 years 8 months. The director said if you're 2 or 3 classes shy of having all of your general ed classes done you can still do the advanced track. I still have EIGHT, so yeah...no go for me.

Designer-Mommy,

Sorry to bust in on the conversation, but I have benefited from a lot of the info here. Just curious about the programs...I have been accepted, but to be honest I have no idea as to which program! I had practically beat it out of them just to find out that I was accepted and had a student number. I swear they must be in the offices for about 20 min a day!

So my question is, do you have a bachelors in another area?

So do you know what classes your husband took which transferred. I have looked at the classes i took and tried to see what general ed they would fall under at IAUPR but once I get past the english and spanish I am lost. Whats strange is they have regular classes like sociology or psychology that we all have to take in the states but instead they make you take their general ed with vague titles and descriptions. If you plan on going to a masters program later i would suggest purchasing a catalog from IAUPR because you are going to need it later to explain some of those general eds. Luckily I have mine. I think???

LOL You're right about them being in the office for about 20 minutes a day!!! It's rare to be able to catch someone when you first get to the school. Usually you're waiting for someone to get to work, or get back from lunch, or some other break.

I'm sure you've just been accepted into the university itself. Once you get here to PR you can talk to the director and she'll set you up with nursing. Pretty much if you have a 2.5 GPA or higher, you're in. She was extremely impressed with my hubby's 3.5 and my 3.14 LOL

I have an associate's degree from a community college in Florida, but they didn't transfer a lot of my credits over. Probably only about 1/3 of them :crying2: It was for elementary education, but the I decided that it wasn't for me.

I'm so happy that we're all getting to know each other here. Nursing school is tough, so we won't feel like we're doing it alone. We can push each other to make it through the rough patches. I met someone from this board a few days ago (don't want to call her out LOL) and she and her other half were awesome people :up:

No, he took all of his classes at IAUPR, so no transferring. I'm the lucky one who lost a ton of credits in the transfer process :crying2: Imagine that, he's only been going for less than a year now and is already way ahead of me--and I studied for 2 years to get my associate's! Not fair!

Ok now I am scared. i am thinking about taking classes over the summer there so i can get out in in under two years. Just when I thought i figured it out. LOL

I was going to try and squeeze a lot of classes in over the summer here, but they have a limit. She told me not to try it, and to choose a minor instead because I was worried about financial aid. I get the Pell Grant and a Stafford Loan, so I need to be in school full time. However, since I knocked out a bunch of general ed. classes, I won't be. It's a big mess. I'd still like to do some classes over summer, but I don't know how that would work out. I would really like to do the advanced track, and I don't see why I couldn't do 5 classes over the summer but I don't know. I might try to go talk to them again and see if I get get it knocked down to 3 classes so I can get it over with faster.

I have talked to two different students who graduated and they said for sure 2 years if you have a BA already.

The assistant director told us the other day that my husband would be finished in 2 years, and he has no degree whatsoever, just the general education classes that he's taken these last 3 trimesters. She told me that I'm going to be done in 3 years. That's the bad thing--you get different stories from everyone. I feel confident though, because the assistant director told us that face to face, it wasn't on the phone. I'm leery of stuff that I hear over the phone.

Hmmm, I think that there is no way of getting around going out there early to check things out and make sure my credits are transferring correctly and getting into the right program.

Has anyone made progress with the female uniform yet? Boat hats and skirts??? I'm terrified.

If things work out for everyone who's trying here, we may be able to put together a study group right away. I always do better in classes when I have a study group.
