Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

Don't worry about not going to the thing on the 22nd, Mike. I have gotten that letter twice and have never went LOL The reason I've gotten it two times is because I had to change my "start date" there in order to register for classes. They send the welcome letter whenever you change it, as if you've just been accepted to the school. I am going to have to go down to the school today to change my start date AGAIN, because the classes were full when I went to register for classes in February. I'm going to try and do everything possible to get down to only 3 general education classes this summer so I can do the accelerated program. I talked to "E" today on the phone, and he said that I am allowed to take 7 credit hours in June and 7 in July, and if I want that extra class, I'll have to go down and talk to the dean of students to beg for an appeal. My GPA is 3.14, not great, but I hope it's good enough for them to realize that I can do it. Send some prayers my way you guys - that they let me do these classes. If not, I am going to be in a big mess with financial aid from not having enough credit hours during the regular nursing program. Plus, I want to get this done and go back to the states!!!

So, if I don't get in for summer, I'm going to have to change the start date a third time with admissions LOL I have no clue why they do that. Most schools don't care about that...once you're in, you're in, and if you want to wait a few semesters to register, so be it. Not this one. I can't register for classes until I change my start date to June. Blah. Wish me luck guys!

Good luck. My undergraduate GPA is 3.17 (I swear I thought it was higher) and they let me in just fine.

Do you know when and how we register for classes that begin in August? Is it online?

Thanks Mike!

I'm already in and I've already talked to the assistant nursing director who said that my GPA is fine, but I have to worry about the dean letting me take more than the 7 credit hours that they allow during the summer. They have a June session and a July session, so if I can get 3 classes in June and 2 in July I should be golden.

As far as registration, you have to go to the nursing department every trimester to register. They have to do it for you, you can't do it online. The assistant director wasn't too happy that my hubby went through "E" to register in the beginning LOL Oops!

Well in relieved about the acceptance letter, since now I can get the ball rolling on my loans, but I'm kinda confused about what my next step is at this point...

Congrats Mike! So when we have the acceptance letter we can start the loan process. I didn't realize that. I guess that is something I should start now. I only want the loans that are are interest free while in school.

How are peoples hunts for accommodations going for once school starts in august?

I am not doing any house hunting until I fly out there on June 8th. I found a roommate from this board though. I can't remember his handle now that we took the conversation off allnurses. We are interested in finding a third and I would like to have that hammered out before I fly down and do house hunting so I know to look for a 2 bed room or a three bedroom.

Both of us want to be as close to the school as possible and he has a dog so we are looking for a pace with a yard. We are looking to pay 250 to 350 per person before electricity and the other stuff.

Blah, I think I'm going to give up on the accelerated program. I went to registration to change my start date last night, and they told us it would take about a week. Yes, a week just to change a stinking date in the system. Whatever. I can't register for classes until they do that, and by then all of the classes that I want will be gone. Then, I went to financial aid to see how much my Pell Grant would cover, and I can't get any information on that until I register for classes *sigh* This school is the only one that I've seen that they can't tell you information on financial aid until you register for classes.

I wanted to ask you guys if you know anything about this...

The assistant director in the nursing department told me that I could do the regular nursing program and choose a minor in order to go to school full time and have financial aid cover me (Pell Grant and Stafford Loan). She said maybe technology, teaching or psychology, but I was thinking maybe management would be good? Anyway, she said that because I will be wayyyy under the 12 credit hour "full time" limit for the grant and loan if I don't get to do the accelerated program, so I will get screwed when they lower my grant amount. However, I already have 90 credit hours from my previous AA degree (I was clueless and didn't see a counselor until it was too late and I had taken some wrong courses), and this BSN is 119 credits, so I think I will be over the 150% limit for federal aid. Does anyone know if getting a minor degree in addition to the major increases that 150% limit for federal aid? I would do a private loan, but I have absolutely horrible credit and no lender would touch me with a 50 foot pole. I just don't want to take extra classes for a minor and then run out of aid halfway through the nursing program. As it stands, just taking the nursing classes, I think that I'll have to pay out of pocket for the last trimester. That's doable since I know this in advance. Plus, the nursing program has a grant that I totally plan on applying for.

Anyway, so that's what I found out. I think I'm destined to take the regular program instead of the accelerated *sniff, sniff* Oh well, everything happens for a reason, right?

So when does summer school start anyway? I was able to find the start date for july but not june. I would like to squeeze in a few classes too.

Why don't you double major rather than a major and a minor. A minor is completely useless. If you have to take all these extra class may as well get another degree. I believe it is 30 units in your major in addition to all the GE classes. I would say managemment woud be really good. There are a lot of masters programs out there that are combined NP (Nurse Practitioner) and MBA. I would definetly go the business track. If you do decide to teach nursing it will be at the community college level or above and you certainly will not need any degree in teaching. Psyc is always good as it is helpful but it will not get you farther. Technology?? Yeah that sounds like something the school would recommend. Yeah we have enough engineers and that field does not really mix with nursing. Scratch that one.

Plus, the nursing program has a grant that I totally plan on applying for.

Please, please provide more info on this.

Are you planning to move out to PR before June? June is less than 2 weeks are you moving now?

By the way there is no one signed up for CouchSurfing.com in Puerto Rico. Any of the ex students want to rent a room or a couch to me for a week starting June 8th.

Some of the classes are on the net so I would take them online. If it would assure me a place in the advance track I would move in a heartbeat.

Some of the classes are on line so I would take them on the net. If it would have me out in two years I would move move down for sure.
