Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

I think a previous poster mentioned that this is their equivalent of Craigslist:

I saw apartments on there that were within in walking distance of Louis Vuitton (or something like that) and things like Walgreen's for like $800 for a 1 bedroom. The rate seem pretty reasonable. I'm a DC native, and that's about how much you pay for a college apartment around here.

P.S. In the event that I do attend, which is likely, I would be looking for a female roommate, heads up to anyone else who is in the same situation.

I guess thats why there is no waiting list! They lost it. lol

Did any one try getting a spanish speaking to call or sent an e-mail in spanish?

LOL. I didn't mean it like that. I am a firm believer of California love, whether its north or south so smile....... Now back to nursing.

metrogirl lets talk about the roommate situation .

Isla Verde and Condado are going to be very expensive. Personally, I would recommend Caguas because it's a big city, you can get houses pretty cheap and you're not too far from the school. It will take about 20 minutes to get there. You can take the expressway, it's $1.50 to go to the university, but doesn't cost anything on the way back. Or, you can take #1 and that takes you straight from Caguas to the college. I prefer the expressway though LOL

Sure, Isla Verde and Condado are great party spots, but because they are great party spots, they're going to cost you. If you have the money to spend, that's great. However, keep in mind that we pay a LOT for things like electricity and water. We only run one window AC unit at night, from about 8 or 10 pm to 7 am, and our light bill comes out to about $150-$200 a month. Water is around $90 every month but I swear there's a leak somewhere LOL And groceries, forget about it. Everything is SOOOO expensive because it's imported. Sure, you can get products from here and the generic Wal-Mart brand, which is what I do whenever I can, but some things you're gonna pay through the nose for. I just want to let you know that cost of living is quite a bit higher here, and I'm originally from Orlando, FL, where things aren't really cheap at all compared to a lot of the other states. So, if it's expensive for me, it's expensive LOL

Again, Caguas is an awesome city. I may be biased because that's where I am most of the time, but I love it.

I'm graduating in May from undergrad and am considering flying out afterward to look at neighborhoods and secure housing as well. I haven't gotten a decision yet, but don't doubt that I will soon. Does anyone have any neighborhood recommendations? From what I've been looking at online, Miramar, Isla Verde and Condado seem to be what I'm looking for.

While these areas are all about 7 miles from school...you will need a car.

These places are $$$$$. One beds about 900+. Look in Ocean Park too. Its a small community close to beach between Condado and Isla Verde. Your best best for allll places is to come here and find signs and call. Not many people use the internet here, really. Also, PR's usually do not check voice mail. Im not generalizing, Im telling you the truth from experience and from the fact that non of my friends answer the VM. Its NOT considered rude to not get an answer and call back 2 or three times.

LOL That's sooooo true about the voicemail. We never, ever check the voicemail. I find it easier to just call the number back. People will ask us what we think about what they said in the message, and it's like...what message? Oops! So yeah, if you don't get a call back, just call again. Also, many people (probably in the mainland too) don't answer numbers that they don't recognize.

I don't want to live in Condado/Ocean Park for the parties but instead to live close to the beach. Oh and I have found studios around there in the 500 range and everything is negotiable too...

No, I didn't mean that! I'm sorry, hope I didn't offend you. I just think that the whole college experience goes along with nightlife, having fun, etc. Then again, I'm 31, married with 4 little ones, so I don't know much about partying anymore! I guess what I meant to say was that those are popular tourist/vacation spots, so they will charge you more. Not necessarily party spots. And $500 for a studio sounds great! Just put feelers out and try to find out if they're in a good area or not. That's very, very important here.

Now not only do I have "E" but I have a client and her company does business with the University. She contacted her colleague who works with IAUPR. Her colleague has a contact at the University and this person contacted me to let me know that she can help me with anything.

I anytime I have emailed someone 2 or 3 times in a month with no response I email her and carbon copy her. She gets right on it and speaks with the person and the person promises they will email me back. She is great and I could not ask for a better contact however she cannot write the email for these incompetent people and I don't want to bug her too much.

OK so I sent an email to my contact (see story above) at IAUPR and wow, oh wow!! She emailed the Chancellor of the Metropolitan Campus and within one hour I had a call from a girl in admissions asking where she can fax my acceptance letter.

It is so nice to know people.

Now I am going to lay low, wait for my letter from LSU and then figure out which big move I am going to make.

Someone on the LSU thread got a letter stating they are on the alternate list and it is worrying me so I am leaning a bit more toward PR right now.

Does anyone know if IAUPR goes straight through the summer? Most accelerated programs dont stop. Lsu is 21 months and there is NO summer except for a week or so in the middle. I don't believe IAUPR is a true accelerated program though. Anyone know the answer?

Yay, at least I was accepted somewhere I can afford. I'm not sure why I applied to schools I can't afford.

Hey, I envy you. Good job networking. i guess it really does pay to know people. Well at least now you have options. In response to your question in the brochure it says the program is three trimesters and two summers. It looks like your next two summers will be a little busy if you decide to attend but I think its worth it.

Now, I have a question. Looking at the Brochure for the BSN program (the one with the people on it and outline of the class schedule) it looks like you can finish the associate degree portion in about a year if you have all of the general glasses done already. My question is would IAUPR allow you to take the NCLEX after your first year if you have the equivalent of an associate degree (which meets the requirements of the NCLEX in most states)? Hmm?? FYI I also noticed on the NLNAC site they are trying to get there ADN program accredited too.
