Nursing programs in Philadelphia area

Hi all,

I recently graduated with my BS in psychology but want to go back to school for nursing. I'm currently working on completing my prerequisites. I have checked out Jefferson's FACT program as well as Villanova's BSN express program. They sound like great programs but are so expensive that I'm not sure I want to take on more student loans. Does anyone know of any other programs or are there any hospitals in the area that will pay for schooling? Any input is very much appreciated. I want to explore all my options. Thanks!

Hi my sis has BS in psychology and now she is thinking to go for PA. yet she has to take few more pre-req.

Im looking for a 2 year associate program in philadlephia. I know jefferson and villanova is too expensive and i cant afford 4 year in school. thats why im thinking to do a 2 year now and later while working i can complte BSN ( most likely online)

btw - did you check at gywennd mercy?? i think it is expensive too.

I believe West Chester and Eastern University also have accelerated programs that may be cheaper (been a while since I checked though). Most hospitals don't hire that many ADNs though there are exceptions especially those after Magnet designation. You could get your ADN, try landing a job at a nursing home or long-term care facility, and work on a RN-to-BSN on the side if your ultimate goal is a hospital job.

If you choose a ADN or Diploma program, understand that your chances of getting a hospital are SLIM; if they are hiring ADNs they are hiring experienced ADNs...this area hasn't had a TRUE nursing shortage in over 20 years.

If you are flexible with job prospects, then there are several ADN programs you can get into, such as Gwynedd-Mercy, MCCC, and CCP; otherwise there are several generic BSN programs that could cost less money in the area....research, research, research FIRST before deciding on a program; there are many out there that provide flexibility and comparative prices and great reputation than going for the accelerated ones.
