Hello Ya'll,

Just want to know if any of you had to go through an interview to get into the LPN program. At my school, there are approx. 200 people trying to get into 30 day class spots, and 18 night class spots. They do a criminal back-ground check, then they go by grades, and you are scored on the interview, so then only the top 48 get in. I'm not worried about the back-ground check, and my grades are all A's and B's and one C. The interview is what I'm worried about. What should or shouldn't I wear (clothes, hair, make-up,jewerly, perfume etc.). And one question, one of my instructor's said they will ask "Why do you want to become a nurse"? she said DO NOT say "I've always wanted to be a nurse".

These interviews will be in August, if any of you have any advice or guidence PLEASE talk to me:o Thank You.

We never had interviews to get into our program. Is that pretty normal? I would suggest wearing something professional, yet still you. I wouldn't wear something that you would never wear. Be yourself and they'll appreciate that but look neat, clean and professional.

As for the question....why DO you want to become a nurse? Are you compassionate and is it your thing to help people? Or are just really interested in the medical field and this is your opportunity to be a part of it? Really think about WHY you do. I have always found that if I smile and act myself, I have done wonderfully. It's when I try to act how I think they want me to act that I totally bomb!

One question that my friend was asked when applying into the sonography program: What are your weaknesses? ALWAYS turn your weakness into a strength! I am a perfectionist, etc. That is a question I've been asked before in job interviews too!

Good Luck!

welcome! i did not have an interview to get in lpn school nor for the rn program. i would just tell how i really felt in a few sentences. "a business wear" would be presentable, either pants or skirt.

i am sure you will do well and look great too.

let us know how it goes!

again, welcome!

Freebird,

I had an interview before getting into my program. There where 170 people competing for 30 spots. I luckly made it!! We had to write an essay "Why I want to be a nurse". Instead of writing about how I want to help people, I wrote mine on how I wanted to help myself by having a career that would constantly challenge me and provide me with the personal satisfaction that I need everyday etc...... you get the picture! I think too many people say "because I want to help people" I think that they (the interviewers) are looking for something that will knock their socks off! You have to come up with something that they won't soon forget... As for what to wear, I would suggest something professional, but most of all BE YOURSELF! I'm sure you will do well..... Keep us posted!;)

I was coming to the forum to ask the exact same question. 52 students are admitted out of however many. I want to make sure I make a good impression when I'm interviewed.
