Nursing Prog. based on GPA, or NCLEX test?

I'm just wondering if this is different for each school, or if it's the same. Is the nursing program based on GPA or just the results of the test alone? I have heard that my local community college goes based on the results of the NCLEX only, and does not look at the GPA. That seems rediculous to me, that's why I'm wondering if other schools do this. I tried calling the nursing office, but they are closed right now. (have to wait until monday! )

I am also wondering if I do bad in a class, say... a D, can I retake the class and get a better grade and have that class show up on my GPA? It's a sociology class, and I took it last summer. I"m just wondering if the higher grade will totally override the bad grade, and the bad grade won't even show up on my transcripts. Is this true, or not???

First you take the NCLEX AFTER you graduate from your program. My school bases it on GPA, and test scores (NET for LPN, and PAX for RN).

And lastly it all depends on your school as to if the D will be calculated into your GPA if you take it again. This info should be in your college catalog. My school drops the first grade, and replaces it with the new one (if it is higher). But all schools are different.

Excellent advice. Most nursing programs require some sort of entrance examination such as the HOBBIT or NET. Beyond the entrance examination, each program has its own formula for ranking the students (usually GPA, total college credits already taken, etc.). Usually there are many more applicants than slots available, so a high GPA is imperative. Definitely retake the "D" and "C" courses.
