Nursing is my oyster...now where to live

Published

It has been said many times on these boards that nursing is a whole world of opportunity. As someone who will be graduating soon I am begining to look at various opportunities. Perhaps some of the experienced nurses or even travel nurses would like to share where they think some of the best places to train, work, and live are.

Thanks.

I live in Oklahoma, a very small town....small enough not to have anything...no stores, no stop lights,etc......I love the wilderness, then I travel to OKC....three hours away for work. Drive down, work three days, drive back. I love having my home so far from my work.

Out of curiosity, do you have an apartment or stay in a hotel? I've often wondered how people manage that. When I lived in AZ, I did know of some people that maintained places in Tucson and drove up there to work.

I'm not sure where you are renting a 4 bedroom house for $1,000/month. Around here (Brandon area just outside of Tampa) I am not even able to find a 3 bedroom apartment that rents at that price. The 2 bedroom apartments with one bath are around $850/month if not more.

Housing in Florida is really cheap... :stone

I just moved out of East Bay of CA. 1000 dollar at most can get you a one bedroom, or a large studio. But it was around campus.

Military Spouse,

I am fortunate to have family/friends in OKC. I stay with them, it is just a few days a week. In exchange for room/board, I take them out to eat somewhere nice one night and cook dinner one night. Plus, really keep my things picked up,etc...

Someone I worked with the othernight is staying with someone she met on an assignment, and sharing the allowance with them. She also has gotten roommates of roomates.com ( i think)

That's awesome! I've often thought that I could do something like that as long as there was a Red Roof Cheapy Inn around. I think it is so neat that people can live where they want and then just go into work for a couple of days. Enjoy your situation:roll
