Nursing/Nurses Credit Unions?

Hey There: Are there any nurses credit unions, especially in the SF Bay Area of CA? Today I was looking at our (me and wife)account statements from Wells Fargo and found charges for "Excessive Use Fee: $10" for an account that I have linked to a debit card and Amazon subscription services. I have Celiac disease, and buy most of the foods that are safe and gluten free in bulk through Amazon's service. It's really affordable, and as we've used it, we've included more and more things, like diapers for our kid, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, etc. As a result, we get probably 20 charges that hit that account a month, and use it for groceries, too. Excessive use fee my butt! Additionally we were hit with a $5 fee for "Account management." So that's it, we're over it. We are wondering if there is a nurses credit union, or other recommended credit union you all can suggest for us. We'd like to have no debit card fees if possible, and on line banking. Thanks, and happy holidays.

No I haven't heard of any just for nurses.

I am still a member of my CU from my first job, from my first go 'round with college/career at a big pharmaceutical company.

You don't need a credit union just for nurses. In fact most credit unions in the area are open to everybody. It is not restrictive anymore to become a member of a credit union like it used to be in the past.

Probably just look in the yellow pages and you'll find a large variety of credit unions. The larger ones have more amenities and programs than the smaller ones.

Joining a credit union is the best thing all of us can do to improve our financial situation. Your a member, its non-profit and generally offers better terms for loans and savings. Also a credit union credit card can only go up to 18% at the most and generally is less than the big banks that have monopolized credit cards in the private sector! Of course less fees as well.

The mortgage collapse was brought about by the collusion of big banks and brokers to push subprime predatory loans on their unsuspecting customers! They'll smile act like your best friend all the while steering you to a high fee, deceptive loan without a conscience. I remember when brokers were pushed as they way to go as they had access to so many loans, but no one mentioned that they would raise your interest rate or change your terms just to pad their bonus!

A credit union is fair, open, no tricks, you know what you get! They are more conservative so it may be harder to qualify for a loan, but it is worthwhile to consider them first. Choosing a credit loan gives you peace of mind and saves you from all the tricks and schemes of the big banks and brokers!

I was going to respond but the preceding post covers it really well. I'm a big believer in credit unions and millions of Americans lately are discovering why.

I also highly recommend to anyone who has qualifications for them banking with USAA. I thought banking with a service out of town would be a pain, but it's been utterly painless, and the best customer service I've seen in decades. You have to be a military person or dependent to get in, though. I don't know if USAA is technically a credit union, but they operate much that way.

Pentagon Federal is a national credit union for military but anyone can join if they make a small $25 charitable contribution to a military charity. They have really incredible rates and if you don't mind an online account I recommend them. They are in several large cities, otherwise just online, but it is really worth it to check them out!
