As I am pounding through my core and support classes I am noticing more and more people either moving to texas or beginning to take nursing as their career. Has the state become oversaturated with nurses?
Also when trying to get an internship are grades something they look at with high regard?
Right now I am working towards a Biology degree and was then maybe going to pursue nursing but was thinking of putting that off and rather do nursing first and then work towards my degree in biology.
Would having a degree in Biology and a AS in nursing better my chances at getting an internship/job?

It's really a multi-pronged issue. Yes, the market is being inundated with new grads. In Dallas, there are about 4 ADN programs that churn out 100-150 new grads each semester, plus Baylor, plus TWU, plus TCU, plus UT-Arlington. That is about 800 new grads per semester being graduated and the hospitals (let's just say that there are 20 with new grad spots, although many smaller hospitals don't have GN programs because they aren't large enough to have that set up, so there may be less than 20 that have GN programs).
And at those 20, there are anywhere from 12-16 new Grad spots open? Do the math...it's rough.
Add that to the economy issues and the fact that a lot of hospitals have low census right now...and it's pretty bad. Doctors hospital, for instance, has not even decided if they will have any openings yet (they had many last semester) and they are even offering $10K sign on bonuses for experienced ER nurses.
I have a couple of interviews lined up, but it is much tougher this year. Good luck to you all!!!
