Hello all!
Currently a nursing student with another year left before I take my boards. One of the big reasons why I chose this field, other than being passionate about providing care, is because of mobility. Having lived in Southern California all my life, I feel a strong desire to get out of here because of the cost of living and taxes are high. Also, not to mention bad traffic. I currently work at a hospital as an ER tech, and the nurses that I am good friends with commute so much just to get to work. One reason why they commute so much is because they have homes in counties where they're cheaper but still expensive IMO. As a result, some drive 2 hours to get to the hospital! LA and OC pay ranges $35 to $42 an hour without differentials. Can you tell me some places that are more economically feasible? I hear Las Vegas has great pay, low cost of living, and no taxes. I loved Seattle when I visited, but unfortunately they pay relatively low and have a higher cost of living (correct me if I'm wrong). Any place that shows promise?
Thank you

Vegas does! You can make amazing money here as a nurse. New grads are about $35/hr and per diem starts at $52/hr.
Cost of living is low and affordable. Consider relocating! I did that for my first RN job. But I would recommend not moving without a firm solid job offer.
@ICUman, thanks! Is the job market competitive over there? What are some reputable hospitals if you don't mind me asking?
It is relatively competitive for new graduates. I recommend applying to the Valley Health system. They are most welcoming to new graduates. You can easily pay off debt and make good money as an RN out here.
