  1. @ICUman, thanks! Is the job market competitive over there? What are some reputable hospitals if you don't mind me asking?
  2. Hello all! Currently a nursing student with another year left before I take my boards. One of the big reasons why I chose this field, other than being passionate about providing care, is because of mobility. Having lived in Southern California all my life, I feel a strong desire to get out of here because of the cost of living and taxes are high. Also, not to mention bad traffic. I currently work at a hospital as an ER tech, and the nurses that I am good friends with commute so much just to get to work. One reason why they commute so much is because they have homes in counties where they're cheaper but still expensive IMO. As a result, some drive 2 hours to get to the hospital! LA and OC pay ranges $35 to $42 an hour without differentials. Can you tell me some places that are more economically feasible? I hear Las Vegas has great pay, low cost of living, and no taxes. I loved Seattle when I visited, but unfortunately they pay relatively low and have a higher cost of living (correct me if I'm wrong). Any place that shows promise? Thank you
  3. Hey mtroung, Wish you the best on applying. I can honestly say that the application process is like all other nursing schools. Nothing unique. Just strive for a high GPA, a strong personal statement, and relevant work or volunteer or research experience. There is an interview, but it's like any other interview in that they ask you pretty standard stuff. Nothing tricky. This is their first class, so I don't know how well their program is going to turn out. You should come back later when the cohort finishes a few quarters or their first year and get some feed back then. Also, look into other entry level programs. There are well established MEPN programs that have been doing this for years (e.g. UCLA and USD). I heard nothing but great things from these schools, and many students and close friends of mine were able to find jobs after graduating from the aforementioned schools and passing their boards. UCI is pretty reputable, however. I'm confident the accepted students will be prepared. So you should definitely look into program and website. Ask them questions! They're pretty receptive. To give you perspective of how competitive it was, over 200 people had applied for 20 spots. 45 people were granted interviews. I don't know the number of waitlisted students. I would love to know who else is waitlisted and accepted offers. G'luck!
  4. Congrats on those who were admitted! Wish you the best on your education to become well-trained clinicians. Unfortunately, I was placed on the waiting list (don't know which number). I have little hope of getting in considering it is going to be a small class.
  5. I would have to agree with sb12345. However, I would arrive a bit earlier just in case. Best of luck to you all! T-minus 2 days!
  6. 45 applicants in total are being interviewed for 20 spots. G'luck to you all.
  7. Hey guys! I'm applying as we speak. I know it's a bit late, but I have till the 22nd of Feb. I also barely figured out this program, which is why everything is so late minute. I was wondering if anyone knows how to submit their resume to UCI's school of nursing? Also, does anyone mind sharing their stats? Undergrad: UCLA Cumulative GPA: 3.92 Prerequisite GPA: 4.0 (retaking stats since I took it 9 years ago, but passed the class with an A) 350 hours of volunteer and leadership experience with St. Francis 2450 hours of work experience as an ER Tech and PACU PCA 6 month research assistant experience with UCLA's School of Social Services
