What about a pending charge, but no conviction?

Nurses Criminal

Published

I had a friend take advantage of me. I was charged with two felonies (theft and possession of criminal tools). Upon investigation, they found that I was a victim. The charges are going to be dropped, but it is a long waiting process. I need to apply to nursing school before all this is taken care of and currently, the charges are still pending.

I can explain that this is going to be dropping... I just have to wait for our insanely slow legal system and also explain that charges are filed before anyone bothers to investigate around here.

Do you think nursing schools will believe me or will they reject me because of the pending charge? I looked into it and I am still eligible to take the NCLEX and practice as a RN even if I were convicted... you need two theft convictions and even then you are only banned from working with older adults.

Should I apply, or wait yet another year?

Many schools put the onus on the student to report any issues which may prevent student from completing classwork/attending clinicals. Some areas clinical sites require criminal background checks, others do not. Please seek legal guidance in this matter. It may be better for you to wait a semester or another year to have legal decision rendered, rather than paying money to school , only to be denied access to clinical site.

Best wishes in getting this resolved quickly.

Set up a meeting with whoever is in charge of that at nursing school. Since they take care of admissions, they'll know the answer.
