Hi everyone just need some advice on a subject. I came to texas on compact license and then I applied for a temporary Texas license and was denied. I then had to send in 150.00 to their investigation department for them to investigate further. The end result ended up being them denying me a Texas license. I received an assault charge, peace disturbance and property damage charge 24 years ago and they said I have a criminal history and to add injury to insult they put this info on Nursys about my arrest. The state where I was from asked for a letter of explanation they gave me my license and it was a done deal. I was in shock because anyone can now see it, I have been a nurse for 20 years and have never had any arrests since then but texas would not even give me a license for something that happened that long ago. Can they legally post these arrest of mines on Nursys for EVERYBODY to see. I'm still in shock because my original license from another state did not do this to me. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them? Can I do anything about this? I have heard people with worse criminal histories including felonies and drug issues get licenses but I cant understand why they denied me for an incident that happened so long ago and that they put those arrests on Nursys. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

Texas can do what Texas wants to do with regard to nursing licensure, regardless of other states' practices. Aren't criminal records a matter of public record anyway?

If they did, then I suppose they can. Were you honest about your criminal history when applying for the Texas license? It does seem somewhat extreme that they would deny you outright...

When you applied to Texas you had to fill out a spot on your application about any and all criminal history minus minor traffic violations. Were you honest on this section and did you disclose all parts of your criminal history?
Yes I disclosed it and was shocked that they denied me. I wasn't expecting it either
