Hi all! New to this site, hope this is an appropriate place to post this.
I'm considering moving from Peoria,Il to Austin, Tx. Been an Associate Degree RN since 1991. I have an inactive APN license as a Womens Health Nurse Practitioner. I was in the last APN class to graduate via a title 20 program at Planned Parenthood, before a Masters was required, so I let my licensure lapse in 2003 as it is worthless now and I don't have the financial capability to go back for a Bachelors and Masters. Most of my experience is in womens health, pediatrics, and ambulatory post op. Currently I'm working in a pediatric surgery office position. It took me over a year to find my current position, which I've been at for a year and a half. Prior to that I worked at an ambulatory surgery center doing post op care on night shift for 9 years. I'm wondering if the job market in Austin is as tough as it is here? I have good references and a good work record, but it didn't seem to help at all in my job search here....

I will be interested to hear the answer to your question from those in the know. Last I knew, the market in Austin was very tough, because it's a highly desired location.
Having experience will give you an advantage, though. Good luck.
