I'm doing a independent pediactric observation for school and need to come up with nursing interventions for and 18mo old boy. He has tubes in his ears and one they have had problems with draining. He lives between his paternal and maternal grandparents, mother is not in the picture. He doesn't know shapes or abc's yet. He knows ball. He doesn't play with kids his age, no daycare.

We are always happy to help with homework but we won't do it for you. What do you have so far? Nursing interventions for a care plan? What semester are you? What further assessment have you done?

op, congratulations on making your first an post!
now then. should an 18-monther know shapes and letters yet? what do you know about normal growth and development for that age? what are the tubes for? what are the problems he's having? what have you observed?
(as esme says, we will help you, but you have to bring something to the table first.)
i was just thinking how often these posts come up on sunday nights!
He doesn't know shapes, colors or numbers. The tubes are because of constant infections. I know by age age one they should be able to say at least 1-2 word sentences he can say 1. To me his developement is normal for his age. I'm usually really good at this but never had to do one on a healthy child.
Its not for care plan, there's no diagnosis just need interventions for developement
What do you think you would need to do with an 18 month old to help their development? Do you think maybe his language skills might be behind? What type of play will advance development, especially language skills. Should he be able to know some shapes and colors? Has he developed attachments to his care givers being that he is shifted back and forth? Should he enjoy playing with other children?

Google is your friend.
don't forget that with a child, your patient is also the parents/guardians. what do they have to know? what should they check or be on the watch for, to maintain optimal health for this kiddo?
