Online Only Informatics Program

I need to decide on an online only informatics masters program, and the sooner the better.

The problem is that there are many, many online colleges, but I'm unsure of the best cost/performance ratio. My workplace is offering to pay 80% of tuition, but even so, I'd like to keep costs low.

Any advice or thoughts would be great!

Specializes in ER, Peds, Informatics.

I did my MSHI through the University of South Florida. It is completely on-line, and I had the opportunity to learn a lot from other students in the program that came from different backgrounds (physicians, pharmacists, RTs, etc.).

Specializes in Psychiatry.

What programs have you looked at so far and are you looking for Nurse Informatics or Health Informatics? Usually if youre looking for strictly health informatics you need some prior IT experience or education unless youre starting from square 1.

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

Hello!

I got my MSN in Informatics from Walden University. It is completely online. Most of the coursework is through discussion board posts and writing papers (a lot of them). I really didn't feel like I had a lot of interaction with other students and never felt connected to my professors. I would not consider Walden a lost cost option but you can start quickly and finish within two years while working full time.

Once completing my MSN--I was quickly able to find a position working as an application analyst but I would not account that to Walden University. I did not find any resources there for job placement (job fairs, hospital affiliations, etc).
