Nursing informatics in Wisconsin

Published

I'm new here. Hello everyone. I am a Master's prepared NP. I've been practising in private practice for 6 years in Wisconsin. I am interested in doing an online Post Master's Certificate in Nursing Informatics. I see that I will have to do a final semester internship, which will probably mean having to either quit my current job or take some sort of leave from it, if I can swing that. I am wondering whether anyone has any advice regarding this move in whatever regard (too broad??) I have not heard of many nursing informaticists in Wisconsin. This does not mean much as I am not "plugged into this community." I tried calling the IT person at one of the Aurora medical centers here in the Fox Valley as well as in a couple of other local hospitals and I usually get little to no info-ie they don't have a clue. Will it be possible to find an internship in Wisconsin in nursing informatics and after the internship a job in the field?

Thanks a lot for your help and advice.

Hello Monteiro1511,

It won't be necessary to quit your current job to complete that last semester internship. Commonly students are allowed to complete an intership at or within their current organization or at another one close by. Most students utilize vacation time and the intership may be 1 or 2 days a week - if that. As an example Excelsior requires a final on site practicum that is completed over a long weekend - Friday, Sat and Sunday.

First identify the school you will be attending and then find out exact details from the individual school.

Feel free to e-mail me if I can be of assistance.
