Nursing graduate but not licensed. Trying to be MA

Published

Hi I just want to ask, if I want to work as a MA do I need to be certified and do I need to enroll again in MA accredited schools? I am a foreign Bs nursing graduate. Failed nclex, but planning to apply job as MA. Thanks.

Some clinics and doctors' offices require their MAs to be either certified or registered, whereas other employers are willing to hire and train without certification or registration.

You might want to check what your state says about MA's because some requires you to be registered or certified. Also MA's have lab and clinical hours that you have to acquire and I don't know if they'll take your clinical experience into consideration since you are foreign educated.

Thanks for the reply. I already took the nclex exam here in california board of nursing... But unfortunately, I failed.... Im in bay area.

Neither federal nor state governments currently require a medical assistant to be either certified or registered in order to perform medical assisting duties. No medical assisting certifying or registering organization has control over state laws and regulations. However, many physicians and medical facilities are requiring medical assistants to be certified or registered through either a state or national agency.
