Thanks so much, that is very helpful! I did not see anything there regarding NICU or Neonatal? That is something I have considered. I did see pediatrics but I don't think that is the same? Also anybody with personal experience in a particular field I would like to hear some feedback from you also, thanks )
I'm in the same boat as you totally.
For me, neonatal is something I really want to look into, as well as peds in general. I don't think as an RN you have specialties, it's more for when you go for your masters.
I'm hoping to start an RN program in the fall, if I don't get in I'll be looking at ABSN programs for the spring/following fall. If you wanna swap stories let me know I can always PM you my e-mail address.

Look into infusion, I have found it is a very "clean" and technical orientated field.

Sounds good! I am also hopefully starting an RN program this fall and I can't wait! So talking to other people and reading stuff like this really helps. Do a search for NICU on here, and read the post about NICU likes and dislikes about your job (or something like that). This sounds stupid but almost every story made me teary eyed and it just sounds like such an awesome job! Every single person who posted about their experience said they absolutely loved working in NICU and wouldn't change it for anything. It has definitely convinced me that NICU is where I want to be! Keep in touch and maybe we can help each other throughout the nursing program! lol

You can definitely specialize even at the ADN level. There are many certifications you can get as a RN. For example, CRNI...Certified Registered Nurse Infusion or the CCRN which includes neonatal critical care.

I'll probably spend at least 1 day shadowing a family friend who is a NICU nurse this summer.

Totally true I forgot about CCRN and PALS and all that stuff which I'm planning on getting once I get my RN

I have just recently in the last year decided I want to become an RN, hopefully to start the nursing program in a few months. I will find out in about a week if I was accepted!
I know I will have time to figure this out later but I wanted some information now to kind of lead myself in the right direction.
I am not very familiar with all the different fields of nursing... or is it called the speciality? I am a little squeamish when it comes to blood and stuff but I feel that's something I can easily overcome because I can already handle seeing alot more gross stuff than I previously could....I have been trying to train myself lol....but I would like to work with children or babies I think. I still want some excitement at work, I don't want it to be the same boring thing but I don't feel like working with the elderly is for me, definitely not interested in trauma or ER. What is something I could do that deals with the least disgusting stuff? I'm not saying I'm too good to do whatever I need to do, I will go all out there in blood, poop, vomit, whatever I need to do! lol BUT if I have an option here I would like to exercise that option. I don't want to sit around though, I need excitement, variety, I want to be around people. Anybody know of something that would be suitable for me?
Any advice is appreciated!
Also, I am going for my ADN, with plans to work as an RN for a bit, and eventually go back to school for my Bachelors or maybe even my Masters. I have thought about Nurse Practitioner or something....but that is in the far future so for now just worried about RN fields.
Thanks all!
