Specialties Educators

Hello. I am a registered nurse, with a wide variety of clinical and community and international experience. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions about where i may be able to find work in providing health education, but not necessarily teaching nursing students.

Most hospitals and SNFs around here have Staff Development positions, which mostly involve giving or arranging classes and training seminars for the facilities' staff. They provide routinely required CEU classes, like the annual infection control requirement, as well as training in areas specifically identified as a learning need on a specific unit. They also serve as resources for unfamiliar diseases, equipnemt, etc.

Also, many DME and drug companies hire nurses to give training to their clients. For example, a company may sell a hospital a new type of IV pump and then send a nurse in to teach the hospital staff how the pumps work.

Just a couple ideas...

Chrys, My company is always looking for nurses interested in speaking engagements to working nurses around the country. In particular I noticed you are from Canada and we have wanted to obtain a contact who can help us up there promote our seminars to your country. Reply if interested in speaking further.

I would also like to suggest looking into your local health department. I do not know if this available in Canada, but most states in US have Health Educators working with the state health department. Perhaps something like this is used in your area also?

The information everyone has responded with is most helpful. Thank you very much.
