Diplomas are usually given when you are taught nursing in a working environment, like apprentice to journeyman type of thing. These are really not done anymore. Most of the time you go to school for an Associates of nursing to become an LPN, and the full BSN is a 4 year program.
To start out the pay is usually the same, however in the long run the BSN will give you more oportunities.
Each country will have their own training for a RN. Some countries also train LPN/LVN/EN and their training is usually shorter than RN. If wanting to work in other countries then generally you have to be RN for immigration purposes and for most they are looking at approx 3 years of continual training or a set amount of hours both clinical and theory
