hi,would anyone be willing to give me some advice or tips as i have been given a date for my interview and would be so grateful for any hints, advice or pointers to prepare myself many thanks:rolleyes:
Hi all,I'm hoping to get into nursing too. I've not got news of an interview yet...but fingers crossed. I am bubbly, outgoing, caring, love to talk....and not afraid of hard work.
Just a few questions........
Do you still have time for partners and friends?
I will need a small part time job.....what do you suggest to fit around this?
I have never seen a dead body....how did you handle this at first?
How do you cope with cleaning up toilet and sickness etc?
How do you deal with your emotions when a patient you have been looking after dies?
Is 26 too old to start the course??
I really don't think those things would bother me, but I suppose you won't know till you do it!! sorry if they seem silly too, but this is a huge decision for me and i want to make sure it's the right job for me. :-))
Thanks
Hi Denise
I am a student, hope these answers help you in some way.
On the diploma programme you should still have time for a social life but you do need to set aside regualr study time.
You should get a bursary for around £140 per week.
Dealing with a death is not nice but it is part of the job. Everyone copes in different ways, so you just have to find your own coping mechanism.
Messy jobs with body fluids, well I have a weak stomach. A travel size strong perfume and olbus oil helps me through the smelly bits.
As for your age, I am nearly 37 and started back in education at 33. We have students in our cohort who are late 40's and early 50's, so you should be OK. :chuckle
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi guys chuckles ive been through your shoes many a time with nerves and interviews. I finally got an unconditional offer for ARU in chelmsford and i start in oct.
Firstly Your never too old to learn and change careers. Im 22 and 2 and bit years ago i thought ah parhaps im too young to go into nursing i beleive that anyone any age can go into nursing i have known people in their 40s and 50s go and study nursing.
GOOD LUCK to you both and I hope you have a great time at Uni. I cant wait hehe. Counting down the days before i start

Thanks for the advice folks. I'm still waiting to see what happens and no news of interviews yet......so perhaps i won't even get in. Fingers crossed.
Think my partner is a bit nervous about me starting as it's a bit of a wage drop, but it's worth it if you're doing something you enjoy!
Has anyone had a part time job while doing the diploma? How often do you work??
Thanks
Hya Denise,
During my training I was working fixed set hours in a chemist, but as the course went on I found it difficult to keep my commitment to the part time job due to placements.
Most of the other students worked on the nurse bank as 'A' grades, and this seemed ideal, which it was.
You could work more shifts during theory blocks and could work around your placements, it was also a great way to learn "the basics" and get your face known around the trust, for prospective future employment.
Hope that helps:)
