Does it matter what type of nursing diagnosis book you have for nursing school? What if you find one that is better than what the instructor has required for a class? Isn't this book mainly used as a guide?

I suppose the only one who can really answer that question for you is your instructor. However, I would have to say that if you think you found a nursing diagnosis book that you like better, then use it. Every author has something different to say. One author may present the same subject in a different way that will just turn on all kinds of light bulbs for you. I'm a big believer in the idea that you can never have too many books. And, I've got two 3-foot piles of nursing books to prove it to you! I currently have 4 nursing care plan books and 2 nursing diagnosis books that I use for reference. I use them all. Each has their own merits.

I would say that if your instructor starts to have a hissy fit if you start to mention a different book than the one he/she recommends, then just never bring the subject up again with them. I'm sure they will make the reason known why they want their book to be used if it's that big a deal to them. But, bottom line. . .it's your money.

Does your nursing school focus on NANDA nursing diagnoses? If so, then I don't think it would matter if you used a different book as long as it was NANDA approved. Or if your school uses a different system, then just make sure the book you buy corresponds with that system.

Our school recommended a certain care plan book, but I found another one I liked and my professor told me that as long as it was NANDA approved that she didn't mind.
