Nursing degree in Australia

Published

Thinking about an under grad in nursing in a Australia. Are there any problems coming back to the U.S. and practicing with that degree? Will I be qualified to take the state boards?

Specializes in CTICU.

This has been written about multiple times if you do a search on the international forum.

If you plan to just work in the US, study in the US. It is a pain for the rest of your working life to be classed as a "foreign grad".

Thank you. I hadn't seen any post to this matter yet. Can you please explain further regarding the foreign nurse classification. The reason for Australia is that it's easier to get into a nursing program. Not looking for an easy education but one less difficult because of the shortage of openings at most major American Universities and it seems to be less expensive in the long run. I would like to find someone with experience that had a difficult time come back to the States to practice and why did they have a hard time.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

There have been a few Australian nurses post that they did not have enough clinical and theory hours in areas like Obstetrics and Paeds, Mental Health may also be affected and this is something you need to be aware of so that you can sort something out if this is a path you choose.
