Nursing classes

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello, everyone!

I am a nurse from Ukraine. After evaluation of my credentials California Board of Nursing has informed me that I need to further my education in Obstetric and Psychiatric Nursing in order to meet their requirements for NCLEX-RN. Currently I reside in Washington State. I contacted at least 10 nursing schools here and was told that I cannot take these two classes without going through entire program. Still waiting reply from two universities. Any suggestuions about how I can make up these two classes. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Specializes in Legal, Ortho, Rehab.

Why don't you see if you meet the Washington state boards instead? Cali will make you jump through flaming hoops to get a license. At least that's how I felt obtaining mine. I didn't stay in Cali very long though...

In order to get nursing license in Washington State I need to go through CGFNS comission and TOEFLE. I was thinking that it would be much easy to apply for California license. Cali dosn't requires CGFNS and TOEFLE.

Agreed. Try getting your license through WA first and then get a license in CA through endorsement. If that doesn't work, you could try getting the classes you need through a community college or an online program like University of Phoenix. Good luck:nurse:

The entire US educates and licenses nurses as generalists, and every state has similar requirements regarding education (classroom and clinical) in all main clinical areas, including psych and OB. (That's why we're able to get licensed in other states comparatively easily -- because the nursing curricula in all US states are comparable.) If CA finds that the OP is lacking in OB and psych nursing education, I would guess most, if not all, other US states will, too.
