I will have been working for a year in June and currently work days of weekends and am off 4 days.. I am interested in getting my feet wet in OB and their are some part time and PRN positions......but if they ask for a reference I am not sure what to do......its not that I am trying to hide this from my boss but she may think am trying to leave......I told her already that I plan on going PRN in June.......that I wanted to see different stuff in nursing.......so do I have to list her as a reference and will I get in trouble for working part time or PRN at another job......I feel it should be ok, as long as it doesnt effect my job at my current job!

I can assure you that you are not the first person with similar plans that your nurse mgr has encountered. Be up front with her and tell her your plans and ask for a good reference. Many, many nurses have mulitiple part time, per diem, on call, etc. positions. It is nothing new. Mgrs know that if your present employer is not giving you enough work for your mortgage and family, then you have to make the difference up elsewhere. Good luck with your plans.
