I was wondering if anyone knows of an online nursing school. I am a nursing assistant and want to go to be a nurse but i have a child at home and a part time job. So i was wondering if there is any good nursing schools online. Can anyone help me?

One of the better online programs is Excelsior College. They claim to be the only distance-learning RN associate's program in the country, they are NLNAC accredited, and they help you set up your clinicals locally (supposedly). They used to do an MA-to-RN program, now I think you might have to be at least a paramedic or LPN. The biggest drawback is that they are EXPENSIVE. But I have friends who have had family members go through the program and they liked it. The website is www.excelsior.edu

i was looking into online nursing schools at one time, and just wanted to give you the heads up and warning......while some programs do have the prereq's online and you have to actually go for the clinicals, i understand those are legit. in my search i had "telemarketers or representatives" call my house trying to get me to sign up for programs, and also recieved information in through the mail trying to get me to sign up for this year long lpn program that was supposedly 100% online. i was ignorant at the time and really thought this was possible, so asked a local nurse practitioner if her office would ever hire someone who had obtained their nursing degree online v/s a nursing school. that's when i was enlightened- she told me there was no way to get a nursing license online unless you obtained your lpn first and then could get a higher degree like rn online. but there are places out there who will tell you they can teach you everything you need to know- just wanted to tell of my experience in case there was someone out there as gullible as me. good luck.

Deaconess College of Nursing is is legit school with on campus and online programs. The college is connected to forest park hospital in st. louis. you can do your adn online. you have to make a trip to the college at the end of each semester for validations in order to progress. If you are out of state, you find a local hospital who is willing to precept you for clinicals. the college does help with this but you must find the initial site that is interested (it is not that hard). You are not just handed a book here and told to read about how to be a nurse. If you can not get through your clinicals (which are about 500hrs+ total) and your validations at the college you will not progress. This school is NLN accreditated. True, some states do not accept certain online programs (ca,la,wa) many do. It is nice to see a school willing to help with a solution to waiting lists to get into "traditional programs" and also, the nursing shortage.

Greetings--

There is and online ASN Program at Deaconess College of Nursing in ST. Louis. All of your assignment are online and you take your test online also. The only time you come to St. Louis is at the end of the semester to preform validations so the instructors know you are preforming skills correctly.

You set up your own preceptorship for clinicals and preform them within the guidelines of the school.

Why not go to the website and check out the information for yourself or give the school a call after the holidays.

I have been in the program for almost a year and I love the flexibility that you have to continue your education and have a life outside of a school building. At the end of the first year you also have the option to sit for the NCLEX-PN exam or just continue without stopping and getting your RN. Either way you can come out of it with something.

Hope this information helps.
