I am a recently qualified nurse (in NZ) and need to give a talk on nursing care of a patient following AAA repair. I understand the need for the usual things following a big surgery like OBS, urine output, monitoring for bleeding, infection, pressure area care and checking neurovascular OBS on all four extremeties to ensure good colour, warmth, sensation, movement. Are there any things specific to AAA repair. For example, I read that ascites may occur post-operatively. Is this because of the inflammatory repsonce causing the vessels to become leaky and loss if fluid into the tissues? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Suzie

Blood pressure control is a big thing in AAA's, Vascular checks of the lower extremities as well.
