Nursing Calculations Problem--HELP!

Published

Calculate the flow rate (mL/H) & infusion time (hrs.) for the following IV administration:

1000 mL D5W IV to infuse at 25 gtt/min. Flow rate: ______mL/hr

The drop factor is 15 gtt/mL

Total infusion time: _____hrs.

Thank you for ANY help!!!!:bluecry1:

OK:

You have to:

1. Convert gtt/min to mL/min (15gtt:1mL as 25 gtt:x mL)

15 X x = 1 X 25

15x = 25

x = 1.66666... mL/min, miltiply by sixty minutes to get 100mL/hr

2. Then solve for the infusion time. The formula is:

total volume = infusion time

mL/hr

so 1000mL/100 mL/hr= 10 hours.

Its been awhile since I've done this, so hopefully someone can double check!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I"VE BEEN WORKING ON THAT A LONG TIME AND NEVER CAME UP WITH THOSE ANSWERS.

25 gtts/minute
(infusion rate)
x 1 ml/15 gtts
(drop factor of iv tubing)
x 60 minute/1 hour
(conversion factor)
=
100 ml/hour
(flow rate)

1000 ml
(total amount of fluid)
/100 ml =
10
(number of hours needed to infuse the total amount)
