nursing with bipolar

Nurses Disabilities

Published

Hello everyone. I was wondering if there are any nurses here that have been diagnoses with bipolar disorder. I'm a male, in my 30s, and was diagnosed a couple years ago. I've been thinking of nursing for some time and really would like to pursue it. I'm taking medication and tend to be very functional and stable. As any of you with bp know, its a very difficult thing to live with. However, I feel it has increased my compassion for people and would help in some ways dealing with people with similar problems. I would very much like to go into a Masters program in Psych nursing and work as an NP. I have all the prerequesites.

So, any ideas on this. I am familiar with the stigma we are dealt, and I realize this is a challenging undertaking. However, it had been my dream for some time, and I know that its possible. Anyone else in this situation please I'd love to talk with you.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

there are a couple of threads but this one comes to the top of my mind

i can sympathize with you. i know how it feels to be so motivated to do something, yet feel as though this is getting in the way.

please, if you can try a few things : cut out all refined sugars & white flour completely (only 3-4 servings of fruits per day), sleep at least 7.5 solid hours per day, workout 3-4 times a week minimun (this can be 30 minute powerwalks..just get moving). :heartbeat increasing your blood flow allows good hormones to circulate and helps to speed up the removal of toxins from your system. it sounds so simple...and it really is. the effects of this are miraculous.

this may sound general, but as someone who suffers similiar symptoms, sticking to these can be life altering...they may not "cure" you 100%..but they make you feel so much better that you can focus. if i stick to all 3..i swear it eliminates at least 85% of my "problems". :bowingpur it makes me feel within grasp and control of myself. thank goodness!..because when my pms comes around..that is the hardest time.

i know it's easier said than done, which is why i gave you 3 simple things to do. i'm not the spokeperson for motivation lol :D. however, if you can just stick to those three things for 1-2 weeks straight..you will feel so much more different that you will continue to do so for months and years to come.

god bless:mad:
