i'm new to this forum and i don't know if this question has been asked or not but i want to know what states are really in need of nurses? i also want to know who pays the most? i'm curious because i want to move to a state that has a big need and where i'm going to make a lot of money doing what i love. i also heard that if you get your licese from new york or california you could practice in any state is there any truth in that?

you want to check w/the state boards of nursing regarding licensure agreements and requirements. and there is a website out there that discusses wage averages by state. can't remember the addy. will get back to you on that unless some wise person here beats me to it. good luck!

Hello again,Babygirl!! As a rule of thumb, on the west coast and on the east coast ,nurses seem to be making more. ( I live in the South. and in the rural areas here the pay seems to be the lowest in the nation) But I think the cost of livivg is cheaper here. So, I think you should think about where you really want to live. zudy

If you work in the VA system, you can have a license from any state. The pay, but mostly the benefits, keep the nurses in the VA system. Pay is based on the area of the country you work in. The VAs can't be the money leader in an area. They, individual VAs, have to do salary surveys to make sure that they are keeping up-to-date with other nurse's wages.
